Back in 2010, I was lamenting the fact that the value of music seemed to be rapidly decreasing. Digital music is great, but it's easy to ignore. I asked myself, "How can I make music that people can't ignore?" My answer: write songs about THEM.

That year I opened up my first Song Shop. People sent me personal stories about their lives and I'd turn those stories into songs. It was an incredibly rewarding experience that taught me a lot as a songwriter and a person. It also formed a bond with my fans that I didn't anticipate and which I now relish.

I've spent the last month culling through the roughly hundred listener-inspired songs I've written. These eleven tunes aren't necessarily the “best” songs I wrote. I chose them for specific reasons. I avoided the ones that felt too personal, both to protect the innocent and also to increase relatability. I also strove for variety. Lastly, I wanted the collection to feel like a Val Emmich album.
